Answers

1. How old is Merten, Inc.?

Merten, Inc. first started as Merten Homes in March 2006. Quickly expanding and diversifying our suite of services, Merten Homes changed its name to Merten, Inc. in June 2008, and now contains two divisions: Merten Design Studio and Merten Construction.

2. What geographical areas do you service?

We can provide architectural services throughout the U.S. We use Boulder and Fort Collins as our two construction hubs, and can mobilize all along the northern Front Range – from northern Fort Collins to south Denver. If you are planning to build outside this area, please feel free to contact us, as we are always examining new markets.

3. How small or large a project will you consider?

No project is too small or too large.
Please contact us at your earliest convenience.

4. How "GREEN" are you?

We are competent in all three shades of green:

LG Light Green
MG Medium Green
DG Dark Green

Examples:

Light Green: modest remodeling, including: formaldehyde-free cabinetry, bathroom tile with recycled content, reclaimed flooring, low-e windows, etc.

Medium Green: moderate remodeling or new construction, including: spray-in foam insulation, radiant floor heat, some PV or solar thermal panels, tuned windows, Energy Star-rated, Built Green, etc.

Dark Green: extreme remodeling or new construction, including: scrutiny of all materials and technology, calculations/feedback mechanisms for all inputs and outputs, with the end result being LEED, Near Net Zero, or Net Zero classifications, etc.

Regardless -- whether you are LG, MG, or DG, WE want to BE your GC.

5. What advice do you have for those wishing to GC their own Green Building Project?

With local, national, and global spotlights all focused on Sustainability, Renewable Energy, and Green Building, we realize the immense temptation in wanting to directly contribute to the betterment of our planet by becoming involved with a green building project. We should know – it’s the reason we formed our company. But, oftentimes, an individual who, for example, already holds full-time employment and full-time familial obligations is unaware of all the levels that even the simplest Green Remodel can entail.

If you do decide to GC your own project it is vital you know that you will be in charge of scheduling, managing, and troubleshooting all aspects of the job detail -- because subcontractors are not paid to manage other trades, and without a strong lead, work can quickly fall behind schedule, rushed, or god forbid – grounded. General Contracting is a hands-on enterprise, and we at Merten hold the necessary years of combined experience to mobilize, manage, and finish your project.

6. Will Merten consider taking over a job from a previous/current builder?

We do not like stepping on others’ toes, but when a situation arises where forward progress has simply digressed into severe frustration, chaos, or dead-stop – absolutely. Please feel free to contact us.

7. How easy it is for my standard builder to implement the Green Materials and
   Technology that I have requested?

We hear this all too frequently. It really depends on your builder and the scope of your project, but we have yet to hear of this experience as ever being a pleasurable one. Seriously.

8. Where does Merten see itself in ten years?

We seek to expand our position and market share as the industry leader & innovator in sustainable design, construction, and land developments.
